The role of the VP Student Life is to be the main contact between AUSU, the Athletic community, Student Services, Residence Community and to assist with the annual programming plan. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the main duties of the Vice President Student Life are, but not limited to the following:
The successful candidate must be enrolled in at least one academic course per semester, be in good standing and must be physically present in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. Attendance is expected of AUSU Executives at events and programs that support AUSU initiatives. Work hours are flexible and you will be expected to work a minimum of 15 hours/week, some evenings and weekends may be required (virtual accomodations will be provided during covid-19). Remuneration for this role is $15.00/hour, with in lieu hours instead of paid overtime.

The role of the VP Student Life is to be the main contact between AUSU, the Athletic community, Student Services, Residence Community and to assist with the annual programming plan. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the main duties of the Vice President Student Life are, but not limited to the following:
- To assist the President in the regular execution of duties
- To be a signing officer of AUSU in accordance with Op1 Finance Policy
- To communicate with the Algoma University Athletics and Residence Departments so that students are aware of the varsity sports, intramurals and other events, occurring on campus, on a regular basis.
- To be responsible for encouraging student involvement in all aspects of Campus Recreation, Varsity Athletics Programs, Residence and AUSU events
- To be responsible for promoting and advertising all AUSU events to include but not limited to: selling tickets, handing out flyers, interacting with students, posting posters and calendars around campus for at least 2 weeks prior to any AUSU event as per Advertising Procedure
- To liaise with University or AUSU committees that may pertain to campus recreation, campus spirit or events (AU Alumni Council, AU Varsity Council, AU Student Life Task Force, AUSU Programing Committee, AU Food Services Committee, AU Residence Council and WUSC).
- To work alongside student services in recruiting volunteer leaders, training and planning frosh week and frost week.
- To work in conjunction with the Board, AUSU and staff to develop and implement a plan to maintain and increase student spirit and involvement that is congruent with AUSU’s objectives
- To develop and maintain a schedule of events and activities as set out previously with the Executive Director (at least one event a month)
- To sit on the Algoma University Orientation Committee, AU Student Life Task Force, AU Food Services Committee representation must follow the spirit of decision made by the Executive and the Board of Directors
- To attend weekly executive committee meetings and monthly board meetings.

Position: Program Coordinator
For Recent Grads
Contract Details: 1 year/ Full-time/$18 an hour

AUSU is seeking a Program Coordinator, a one-year contracted staff position whose purpose is to aid in the design and launch of an Equity Resource Centre, provide planning and execution support for advocacy and equity campaigns & events, in addition to the supervision of placement students for related AUSU services.
The duties and responsibilities of the shall include but not be limited to:
- The primary goal of this position is to establish a Peer ran support centre/hub of student services that strives to build a community of people and ideas that challenges and examines gender-based inequalities and LGBTQ-related issues, celebrates multiculturism, promotes inclusion and equity, in addition to developing a safe space for victims of sexual violence, harassment, discrimination and domestic abuse to gain access to community support services.
- Determine what resources are needed to launch the centre and maintain daily operations. Work with GM and Finance Coordinator to determine budget and staffing needs.
- Work with Communications Officer to develop a branding and outreach strategy
- Attend committee meetings where necessary to collect and disseminate relevant information that will help develop the project
- Research similar centres/hubs at other colleges, universities and student associations to generate ideas, concepts and frameworks that speaks to the unique demographics of AU
- Look for grant and funding opportunities that can help offset start-up and on-going operational and outreach costs
- Be an advocate at Algoma University to create a welcoming, safe, open environment, free of discrimination and racism when necessary
- Provide direction and support for AUSU Executive to execute informational sessions/workshops, educational programming and events to increase outreach and promote the service
- Assist with developing a mentorship program to educate, reduce stigmas and increase outreach; instill confidence and increase interest in career opportunities in equity & inclusion, and peer support work
- Supervise and provide direction in conjunction with the Executive Director to placement students in social/equity service operations, research and/or policy work for AUSU
- Post Secondary Degree in Social Work, Community Economic & Social Development, Psychology, Business Management or Equivalent preferred
- Minimum 1-2 Years of experience working in a related field
- Must be eligible to legally work in Canada
- Experience in a supervisory role and team leadership skills
- Comfortable working independently, remotely and in an office setting
- Preference will be given to recent Algoma University Graduates and/or Northern Ontario Residences
Compensation/Benefits:This one-year contract position offers a Competitive Base Wage of $18/Hour for 40 hours a week, a flexible work environment and an Extended Healthcare & Dental Benefit Package.
